Plastic Hot Houses

edited March 2012 in Patio, Deck, & Pavers 1.00 Karma
Has anyone noticed that the plastic you use for hot houses or tunnels eventually breaks down with UV?

We overcame this problem by covering the plastic with a layer of shade cloth the type you use for shade houses. Our 60 foot tunnel is now 20 years old and still producing lovely herbs, lemons and vegetables. We stitched the shade cloth together using string type electric fence wire and this covering stays on all year round. It is a 70% mesh and peach color. Having the light color does not affect the light coming through.
