I recently read an article about building an inexpensive garden bridge. I was surprised the author suggested to use laminated wood. I think this would be cost effective and provide a good protection against the outside elements. This is surely much cheaper than cedar and no need to buy stain. Of course, the aesthetics of the laminated wood would be a consideration. I would be curious to find out what you decide on, when you begin this interesting project.
