While I liked it also, I am concerned that it will go out of style quickly just like bleached cabinets did 15 years ago. I also am a bit concerned that the heavy detailed style cabinets needed to show off the glazing will be too formal for the more casual kitchen we want.

So my questions are will glazed cabinets look dated in a few years and are they considered a more formal look?

On our property we have several big trees. A few of the trees have roots that come up and show through the ground. It is not a great look. I went out yesterday and bought bags of topsoil to cover the roots. I have three dogs that share the area with the tree. My husband is away on business and I was planning to cover the area and try to make it look better. Now I am wondering if all I am going to succeed in doing is making a big muddy mess? My thinking was that I could cover them and then maybe plant some type of ground cover? Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? ]]>

My goal is to pay homage to the spirit of the house, but on a much less grand scale. The total apartment is about 900 sq ft (1BDR) with large staircase with landing and two story palladian window, 3 chandeliers, 3 fireplaces, HWFs a dressing room, etc. I have been looking at creams/ivories and pale powdery blues and blue greys, but wondered if anyone had any specific advice on colors for this space. I would also like to bring in some of the elements from the courtyard-- its gorgeous-- so have been re-thinking my somewhat cool palate to envision more warm yellows or greens. The space doesn't get a ton of light-- its cool and shaded, and the rooms aren't huge though they have very high ceilings. Any thoughts or ideas?

I am beside myself with joy being able to live in this place! I just want it to be as lovely as possible.

Should the rugs match? http://www.hildebrand-construction.com/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/5035/should-the-rugs-matchs Thu, 10 May 2012 02:00:41 -0400 tuxfan 5035@/forum/index.php?p=/discussions
We bought a house in May and are about to finish the last project on it, which will be built-in shelves and cabinets in the "formal" living room. Then I'm going to buy living room furniture. I'm going to try to describe this without taking a picture.

When you walk into the house you're in a foyer and if you take two steps and look to the right you see the living room and dining room which are open to one another, with the dining room beyond the living room. The living room and dining room are painted the same color and the floors are the same tile.

Right now we have a rug under the dining room table that needs to be replaced and when I get the living room furniture I want to get a rug to go in that space as well to define the area. When you look into the rooms you'll be able to see good-size parts of both rugs.

Should the rugs be the same color and pattern, although probably different sizes? Or should they just complement each other somehow? If so, how? One of them a solid that picks up the colors of the other one? Or can they be completely different?

As you can tell, I'm clueless. Any help would be appreciated.]]>

Anyhow, I am replacing the entire 1st floor with wooden floors and I am debating continuing to the kitchen.

I've only started seeing kitchens with wooden floors recently, and those are far and few inbetween.

Any thoughts on this? bad idea?]]>

We have a really odd shaped entry way and we can't figure out what we should put down for keeping the floor clean when we come in. I've attached a photo of the space. The doors from right to left are: garage door (used very often), front door (not used as much), closet and bathroom. The only ideas we have so far are a medium sized carpet at each door or a custom cut carpet that cover the area. Thoughts?]]>
